Fareed Haque: Classical Guitarist

In addition to his extensive career as a jazz and world musician, Fareed Haque continues to concertize and pioneer innovative performances, transcriptions, and repertoire. He has performed all of the major guitar concertos, is an active transcriber of baroque, as well as South American and impressionistic music and, has had numerous modern works dedicated to him.

In addition, his own compositions have been premiered by The Chicago Sinfonietta, The Fulcrum Point Ensemble, and many others. One of the greatest honors – and challenges – in a lifetime dedicated to music, Haque recently performed BOTH the Aranjuez and Villa-Lobos guitar concertos (in one concert!) with The Chicago Philharmonic, under the baton of Lucia Matos at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.

FIESTA SESSIONS WMFT WITH FAREED HAQUE AND KAIA STRING QUARTET

This is the first of a series of recording sessions put together for Fiesta. The sessions have been produced by Fiesta’s host Elbio Barilari and Fiesta’s producer Daniel Goldberg. The sound engineer is Mary Mazurek and the sessions took place at the WFMT studios in Chicago. Bringing together Fareed Haque and Kaia String Quartet was a natural decision. For almost 2 years they have been working together and developing a repertoire. In this program, three splendid quintets for guitar and string quartet are featured. The composers are two giants of Latin American music, such as Leo Brouwer and Astor Piazzolla, and a prominent Mexican living composer, Eduardo Angulo.
